So here’s an abbreviated version of thing I wrote, January 1, 2011, in the “About” section of blog 500 Days Asunder:

~~

So here’s the thing.

In the days leading up to 2011, I finally reached my breaking point.

After taking a step back, I realized that 95% of my creative juices were being drained by way of semi-clever tweets, topical Facebook updates, and nonsensical gchat statuses. Upon this embarrassing discovery, I knew I had two options:

1) Walk into oncoming traffic.
2) Start writing again.

Thankfully, after much deliberation, I picked option 2.

I considered keeping a diary or writing a journal, but when it’s just for my eyes, I get shockingly lazy (write for 2 straight days, get really proud of myself, and take 3 months off…)

I proudly and openly lack talent, have fooled many people into thinking I’m good at many different things (dancing, board games, basketball, bowling, card tricks, babysitting, subtraction). To be completely honest, there are only 7 things I’m quite good at:

1 – taking it there
2 – being from Atlanta
3 – speaking in hyperboles
4 – having talented friends
5 – making lists
6 – “acquiring” possessions
7 – apologizing, then taking it there again

So that’s pretty much what this blog is about.

1 post every day. No more, no less.

I’m going to do this until I finish grad school and then no more.

May 18th, 2012.

That’s exactly 500 Days.

Good talk.

~~

I only made it 342 straight days.

I shut it down because I got a job that paid me to write. And then a whole career thing popped off. Years passed, things happened, and now we’re all inside our homes.

Seems like the right time to get to 500.

And just like last time, I won’t make any money. But this time, the money goes to people, places, and things that are dealing with financial hardship (from individuals to orgs and staffs to charities and relief funds).

What’s the blog about? I don’t know yet, but I’m feeling peak weird, which means this thing has potential.

1 post every day. No more, no less.

I’m going to do this until I hit day 500 and then no more.

September 18, 2020.

Good talk.
